In third grade we begin using Planners on a daily basis. Each night parents should check their child's planner for daily homework assignments and important messages from school that day. Please be sure homework assignments have been completed and are put in backpacks before signing the planner. Table points are given for random planner checks. Any class work not completed during the school day is considered homework. This work should be returned the next school day. Spelling words, vocabulary words, memory work, and worksheets will be sent home as weekly homework packets. These assignments will be sent as e-mails. Homework assignments will be for Monday-Thursday and they are designed to reinforce classroom instruction. Unless otherwise stated, these weekly homework assignments are due on Friday morning.

It is not my intention for third graders to be overwhelmed with homework. This is the reason I give the assignments out early in the week and do not have them due until Friday morning. If you know you have a busy week ahead, you can plan accordingly and still have your child show responsibility with their
assignments.

Weekly Message and Homework #8
• Be on the lookout for 2 items coming home today.
#1 book report information.
#2 Operation Christmas Child shoebox/information.
• There are only 3 weeks until the end of the trimester and Thanksgiving break. Where has the time gone?
• Start working with your child every day to memorize the multiplication facts. We have been working on: X0,
X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, and X10.
• Here are some good sites for math worksheets, flash cards you can print out, puzzles, tricks and online
practice: http://www.math-salamanders.com/fun-math-worksheets.html
• Information about the next book report is coming home Monday in the Homework Folder. Book reports are
due Wed. Nov.22. I chose this date so you would not be working on it over Thanksgiving break. If you feel
extra time would be helpful and you want to work on it over vacation, email me and you can return it
Monday, Dec. 2.
• Our first service project for the year will be Wednesday, Nov. 13th. We will be collecting completed shoeboxes
for Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes will be coming home on Monday. Inside the box will be a list of
suggested gift items. If purchasing items does not fit into your weekend and you’d rather build a box online
for $25, that is an option. Here is the link: https://tinyurl.com/3c9a28ju
• We are also asking for $10 to help Samaritan’s Purse with the shipping costs. If you would like to make this
donation online, it is at the bottom (#5) of this link: https://samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-
child/pack-a-shoe-box/
• At the bottom of the message is a copy of the suggested items list.
• Don’t forget to turn in last week’s homework, the quilt, paragraph and family tree, if you have not already
turned it in.
• Students should not bring toys from home. They cause distractions and can lead to problems in the class as
well as at recess.
• Thank you to the Quinones, Alexopoulos, Lee, and McDermott families for their donations to the Halloween
party.
• There is no school next Monday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veteran’s Day.
